EVLOMO Inc. and Rojana Industrial Park Public Co. Ltd will build an 8GWh lithium battery plant in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The two companies will invest a total of US$1.06 billion through a new joint venture, of which Rojana will own 55% of the shares, and the remaining 45% of the shares will be owned by EVLOMO.
The battery factory is located in the green manufacturing base of Nong Yai, Chonburi, Thailand. It is expected to create more than 3,000 new jobs and bring the required technology to Thailand, because the self-reliance of battery manufacturing is crucial to the country’s development in the future ambitions A thriving electric car plan.
This cooperation unites Rojana and EVLOMO to jointly develop and produce technologically advanced batteries. The battery plant is expected to turn Lang Ai into an electric vehicle hub in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
The technical aspects of the project will be led by Dr. Qiyong Li and Dr. Xu, who will bring the most advanced technology to design and produce lithium batteries in Thailand.
Dr. Qiyong Li, former Vice President of LG Chem Battery R&D, has more than 20 years of experience in the manufacture and management of lithium-ion batteries/lithium-ion polymer batteries, published 36 papers in international journals, has 29 authorized patents, and 13 patent applications (under review) .
Dr. Xu is responsible for new materials, new technology development and new product applications for one of the world’s three largest battery manufacturers. He has 70 invention patents and published more than 20 academic papers.
In the first phase, the two parties will invest US$143 million to build a 1GWh plant within 18 to 24 months. It is expected to break ground in 2021.
These batteries will be used in electric four-wheelers, buses, heavy vehicles, two-wheelers, and energy storage solutions in Thailand and overseas markets.
“EVLOMO is honored to cooperate with Rojana. In the field of advanced electric vehicle battery technology, EVLOMO expects this cooperation to be one of the unforgettable moments to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in Thailand and ASEAN markets,” said CEO Nicole Wu.
“This investment will play a role in revitalizing Thailand’s electric vehicle industry. We look forward to Thailand becoming a global center for R&D, manufacturing and adoption of advanced energy storage and electric vehicle technologies throughout Southeast Asia,” said Dr. Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Office .
Direk Vinichbutr, President of Rojana Industrial Park, said: “The electric vehicle revolution is sweeping the country, and we are very happy to be part of this change.
